i know two different ways

for strawberries in a syrup, just sprinkle a few tsp of sugar over them and let them sit for a while, all their juices come out and great a great syrup

for the strawberries in that thick glazy sauce
1/4 cup sugar
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 cup liquid cran/raspberry concentrate, thawed, undiluted
3/4 cup water
4 cups strawberries, rinsed, hulled, dried, and halved
In a 2-quart saucepan, mix together the sugar and cornstarch. Gradually stir in the cran/raspberry concentrate and water until smooth. Over medium heat, bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Boil for 1 minute. Remove the pan from the heat and cool completely.Gently fold in the strawberries

that's just a glaze added to the berries, it is easily found in your produce dept of your local market, or you can just cut up the berries and add them to a bowl with a quarter cup of sugar, this will bring out the juices inthe berries and make them sweeter

I believe they get it that way from a can.

But, you can make something similar by slicing your strawberries, sprinkling them with sugar and letting them sit in the fridge until the juices run from the strawberries. If you want to thicken the juices (which have been sweetened by the sugar), pour them out, place in a pan, heat and thicken with a little cornstarch dissolved in water. Be sure to cook it an extra minute to remove the cornstarch taste.

STRAWBERRY SYRUP

Ingredients:
1 pint fresh strawberries, halved
3/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1-1/2 teaspoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon butter or margarine
Waffles or pancakes

Directions:
Place strawberries in a blender or food processor; cover and process until smooth. Transfer to a saucepan; add sugar, corn syrup, lemon juice and butter. Bring to a boil; boil and stir for 1 minute. Skim off foam. Strain seeds if desired. Serve warm over waffles or pancakes. Refrigerate leftovers; reheat before serving. Yield: about 1-1/2 cups.

If you want you can then add some fresh sliced berries on top.
