White Rice!!?!
Thanks!
Answers: Okay so I just made some white rice. What can I out on it to spice it up and make it interesting?
Thanks!
I love rice. Open a can of chili or soup-- any kind except a noodle soup) and after you scoop your rice into a serving bowl, ladle soup over it. Or fry an egg sunny side up, plate some hot rice and put egg on top of your rice and drizzle a little soy sauce over the egg. Open up a can of Spam and fry a couple slices and you have a complete island meal (except for the missing macaroni salad).
When the rice in the pot began it's steaming process (last 15 minutes of covered cooking), my family would put Chinese sausages on top to heat and the flavor (fat) would flavor the rice.
As a teenager, when we made a pot of rice at my grandmother's house, I used to allow it to stay on the stove on low heat until the bottoms and sides crisped & turned golden brown. Then I would scoop out the soft rice for others to eat, pour boiling water over the crispy rice remaining on the sides and bottom of the pot and scoop crispy rice & it's tea into a bowl to eat.
My grandmother commented that I was ruining her pot but I didn't think so.
Herbs and/or spices
rotel w/cheese
broccoli and cheese
Aramat seasoning
Soy sauce is good on it.
make a little stir fry with some veggies and a little chicken or beef
Soy sauce or Terriyaki sauce.
Piri-Piri Seasoning to pep it up - just a sprinkle though.
don't put soy sauce. it's just wrong.
try chicken broth and toasted almonds
I like it with some butter cayenne pepper (add this slowly until you get the right heat) and chopped scallions.
spicey scening duhh or ask your mom
a little butter and garlic salt and fry it in a pan.
for an indian inspired rice add some star anise, a cinnamon stick, three cloves, bit of tumeric, some cooked peas and some chicken stock.
fresh tomatoes, baby spinach leaves and boccacini...lots of basil.
chicken stock, grated cheese and chilli sauce (like tabasco)
I used to throw in a can of cream of chicken or mushroom soup with some parsley and salt and pepper to taste when I was young and ate white rice.
You could also put in some bouillion broth like beef or chicken, with curry spices, or garlic and butter. Chopping in some vegetables sounds good too.
Put some tuna in it, with a little black pepper and salt and any veg you like for example sweetcorn peas, cut up carrots and peppers - make it multicolored and all easy to eat with just a fork
If you like put some mayonnaise over the whole lot or try a little walnut oil as a dressing.
Save it for breakfast and put sugar and milk on it. My kids loved it.
I personally like to use Chicken Broth instead of water and add some butter sometimes even throw a little Soy sauce in there while its cooking - its tasty :)
My aunt made whipped this up for the kids of the family when she was visiting the U.S. It is SUPER easy and extremely delicious.
Ingredients
1 cup rice
1/2 lb bacon, chopped
1 tablespoon oil (Vegetable or olive or peanut)
1 cup kim chee, chopped
1 teaspoon sesame oil
1 tablespoon korean red pepper paste (Kochujang)
1 tablespoon dashida (Korean beef flavored roasted salt)
1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
2 scallion, chopped for garnish
Start with cooking 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water over high heat until it reaches a boil. Then reduce the heat and cover. DO NOT TOUCH RICE until 20 minutes. Then fluff with a fork. If using leftover rice, you can just add it after sauteeing the kimchee.
Fry the bacon in a pan until nice and crispy. Remove from pan and drain grease. Afterwards, chop up the bacon into little pieces and reserve to the side.
In a wok, sautee the kimchee in oil over medium-high heat. You want the kimchee to be cooked until it turns lucid. Maybe 3-5 minutes.
Add the rice, 1 teaspoons of sesame oil, 1 tablespoons of kochujang (or more depending on heat preference), 1 tbsp of Dashida, and bacon, and incorporate thorougly. Add more seasoning to taste. (be careful with the dashida because it's pretty salty). Cook for a couple of minutes until you think that everything has incorporated.
If you feel as if the fried rice is a little dry, you can always add some kimchee juice from the kimchee jar.
Garnish with toasted sesame seeds and or green onions.
MEATBALLS CURRIED
1 lb. ground beef
2 tsp. curry powder
1/2 c. butter
Freshly ground black pepper
1 c. stuffing mix
Salt to season to taste
Mix beef, curry powder, stuffing mix, salt and pepper together. Shape into 32 small balls and sauté in butter over high heat for 5 minutes until brown. Drain.
Put frozen mixed veggies in a frying pan with a little olive oil and sauteed garlic. Stir fry on high until sizzling stops and veggies are crisp, yet cooked. Season while stirring with garlic powder, onion powder, tabasco, curry powder and a splash of chardonnay. Put your white rice in a 2 qt pot, (try to have equal parts of veggies and rice or more veggies), and stir the veggies in with the rice. Heat it up a little on med-low heat. If it is too dry, add a little more water (or chardonnay hee hee), season again to taste and voila!
butter and a spoon of sugar like you would for oatmeal is good for breakfast.
or, you could put leftovers on it, if you have any chicken or casserole of some sort.
you could add it to soup.
i mix it with shrimp, kielbasa, and add some cajun seasonings to it for a quick paella type dish.
mmmm.....finely chopped cilantro and onion
or frozen veggies
lemon juice and spices. it is really good!
cook it in a deep sauce pan instead of a rice cooker.
get about 2 cups of rice.
pour about 1/4 cup of any kind of vegetable oil in the pan
add about 5 dashes of salt
a teaspoon of garlic
Set it to about 4 in the oven and when it's sizzling pour in the rice and mix it with a cooking spoon so that all the rice is soaked in the oily mixture. Then add about 2 3/4 cups of water and let simmer for about half an hour or until it's drain.
Curry powder. Splash of soya sauce, chopped pepper's onion's. lil garlic.
Hoisin sauce. It's a midly spicy chinese sauce that is so good!
Brown gravy and mushrooms sauteed in butter.
Make rice pudding with cinnamon, mace and raisins. Life's to short, so have dessert first!!
