What to make for dinner...?!

Question: I have a FCS (Home Ec.) Home cooking assignment where I have to prepare a dinner for my family using a little bit of everything from each food group.

My main dish is going to be general Tso's Chicken with rice ( http://www.recipezaar.com/164706 ) my drink is going to be milk, and for dessert, a banana creme pie. But I still need a sppetizer and a side. Any suggestions?

i dont no

crab rangoon for an appetizer and a side of stir fried veggies.

Snow Pea Salad

1 pound snow peas, trimmed
1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted
1 teaspoon sesame oil
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon mirin or dry sherry
2 teaspoons white vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
a few gratings of fresh ginger

Steam the snow peas for NO MORE than 1 minute; then rinse them quickly under cold water and drain them well. Your goal here is to have them seem raw without being obnoxiously so. Toss the drained snow peas with the toasted sesame seeds.

In a medium bowl, combine the other ingredients and toss the snow peas with them. Let the salad sit for at least 30 minutes before serving at room temperature.

Can also chill for a few hours and serve it cold.

Serves 4-6

I agree with Sue S...

a ceasar salad for the side and some raw veggies with dip as an appetizer. hope this helped good luck on your assignment.

your drink is going to be milk? milk with tso's chicken? please re-think that... just seems. ew.

For a side try Stir Fried Spinach.
Wash spinach and spin dry.
Crush a clove of garlic.

Heat oil in wok, add garlic and some salt, when very hot put spinach in carefully. stir and when it starts to wilt 30-45 seconds, remove and serve.

For an appetiser make some boiled or steamed won-tons or pot stickers. (about the same thing. Just cooked differently.

Mix some chopped meat or shrimp with spices, soy sauce, scallion and chopped red pepper with a tablespoon of cornstarch and put a spoonful in a won ton skin and fold into triangle and seal edge. Cook in boiling water for 2-3 minutes or
steam for 5 minutes, or put in frying pan and fry for 2 minutes-don't touch, add 1/4 cup stock or water and cover, turn heat down and wait 5 minutes, serve with duck sauce.

Enjoy
