you must have ground meat either from a store thats sells prepack or one that is sold in rolls as if you bought from a supermarket that is ground daily it should never have a 5 day code on it, usually 1 or 2 day code, so I;m guessing it was from like wal mart that sells it prepack and has longer shelf life on it and if so it will be fine until the 17th,
You can always tell ground meat bad if grey and a glossy look on outside and than it is bad, it will always be dark on inside because the meat actually suffacates being packed tightly together and can't get breathing pockets.
The leaner the ground meat the sooner it turns dark as less fat and with less fat there are less pockets for air to go thru, if fatter the fat gives pockets to breathe.
now you have learned a lesson on ground meat from a meat cutter of 40 years and still going at it.

depending on the burger if it was a big mac it would stay good for over 2 weeks it was on mythbusters

I would say absolutely, but let your nose be the determining factor. If the meat is still mostly fresh and red and it smells like meat should, it's fine. Considering that the store would keep selling it to customers until Thursday, it's almost definitely fine to cook and eat.

I'm not so sure that is the correct sell-by date, fresh ground beef will not stay good longer than a week in the refrigerator unless optimum conditions are met. This would mean the fridge stays constantly at or around 34* F. So caution should be taken when using your hamburger. If it doesn't smell bad and you do decide to use it be very sure to cook that meat to a temperature above 160*F. Not only will this kill any built up bacteria from the meat standing in it's own blood while stored, but prevent chances of ecoli from growing during and after cooking. Safe shoppers buy and use fresh meats within a day or two of purchasing or freezing the meats they intend to use later. Safe food practices will prevent you or your family from getting sick.

haha. well if its green then it has oxidised in the fride o i wouldnt reccomend it. if its red and its firm and smells good then yes. id advise u to freeze when your not eating them.

It depends on how cold your refrigerator is....if you have it on a lower conservative setting, I would say only 2 or 3 days max is how long I would think it would be good. Like they say, smell it and see if you detect an 'off' smell...(you will know)...if in doubt, do NOT eat it.
