Out of Ketchup, what can I use instead?!


Question: Out of Ketchup, what can I use instead!?
I am making a bean and frank caserol, has 3 different kinds of beans, then franks and onions, it is asking for 1/2 cup or ketchup, don't have any ketchup, have tomatoe paste and tomatoes, thats it!. can i use tomatoe paste, do i dilute it!? or is there something else i can use instead!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Google recipes for home made Ketchup!. Tomato paste is an ok base for most of them!. But basically it is tomoato, vinegar, water and sugar with some seasoning/herbs/spices

1/4 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Use the tomato paste!. Just remember it is considerably stronger!. so add some at a time!. Start with a teaspoon and go from there!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Use half tomato paste half water & a pich of salt &, if you have it, a dash of Worcestershire Sauce!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Use BBQ Sauce!.!.!. make it your own creation! I usually put BBQ sauce with some Honey, Cinnamon and mustard!. It's Yummy!! If you don't like honey you can take that out!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Baltiboy gave you the best info!. The only thing I can add to it is the fact that ketchup is sweet - lots of sugar - so I'd add a little sugar to the half-tomato paste/half-water mixture!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I use crushed tomatoes with spices, garlic powder, or just a bit of spaghetti sauce!.
