Answers:
I found the same problem myself - so I make them just as the box recipe but I use 1/2 cup less cereal! sometimes I add choc chips to the marshmallow mix - and that's extra good!
do NOT over cook your marshmallows and butter or they will always be very hard!. take them mixture off the stove before they are completely melted because the residual heat will finish them - Oh yes - and don't use too high of heat either!.
go slowly! And a tiny bit of extra butter will help them to be smoother and softer!.
If you want a different flavor - add mint creme instead of the chocolate bits!. they are yummy too!.
best of luck - let us know how they turn outWww@FoodAQ@Com

I have never had a problem with using butter and turning them out hard!.!.!.alway gooey, this may be because I always add just a 1/2 c less crispies, tho!. I like them gooey, and think they are more so with less cereal!. also if you cook the marshmallows, they will turn harder as when you cook a sugar syrup!.!.!.from soft ball to hard ball on up to hard crack!.!.!.get it!? I just have the marshmallows on the fire until they are mostly melted, and stir until all melted, returning for a minute if needed!.
