Question: How do you make "white" icing!?

INGREDIENTS

* 4 cups confectioners' sugar
* 1 cup shortening
* 2 tablespoons water
* 1 teaspoon clear imitation vanilla extract
DIRECTIONS

1!. In a large bowl, combine sugar, shortening, water and vanilla!. Beat on low speed to combine, then beat on medium speed for a full five minutes!. It won't look like Icing at first, but keep the mixer going for a full five minutes, and then you're done!
2!. If you're not using this for decorating, but just for icing the cake, thin the icing by adding 3 tbs!. of corn syrup, or water to the icing!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a baker and I make buttercream on a daily basis with real butter and its always very white-unless I add vanilla- You can buy clear vanilla but its not pure extract it is an imitation!. I've done many many white frosted cakes and I assure you they always come out white!. Maybe you should try a cream cheese icing!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

3/4 c!. Crisco
1/4 tsp!. salt
1/2 c!. water
5 c!. powdered sugar
1/3 c!. dry skim milk
1 tsp!. vanilla

Place all ingredients in large mixing bowl!. Beat for 10 minutes at high speed!. Regular mixer works better than hand held portable mixer!.

If you want a "buttercream" frosting without the butter-yellow, then only use shortening (Crisco)!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
