i suggest making a pie from scratch!. it is easy - here's what i do:

make the pie dough - you can do this in a stand mixer or by hand!. ingredients: 1/2 pound of butter, 5 cups of unbleached all purpose flour, pinch of salt, big pinch of sugar, and a half cup of ICE water with one tablespoon of vinegar stirred in!.

put the butter and the flour, salt and sugar in your mixer or mixing bowl and work it until it is little crumbs the size of peas!. if doing this by hand, you need to work fast so the butter stays as cold as possible!. if in the mixer, use the lowest speed!. once the crumbs are made, slowly add the water and vinegar mix (don't add the ice, tho)!. work it into the flour until you have a ball of dough that is smooth and not sticky!. if you get too much water in the mix, add a bit more flour!. wrap it all in plastic wrap and put it in the fridge!.

get your fruit ready!. for ease, i would suggest apple!. buy four gala apples or braeburn and four granny smith apples!. peel them and slice them into thin slices!. add a cup of sugar, 1/3 cup of flour, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg to your liking!. add a pinch of salt, too!. mix it with your hands and let it sit while you roll out your pie crust!.

assemble the pie (email me if you need hints) and make sure to put a few pats of butter on the apples before adding your top crust!. once the top crust is on, mix an egg and a little water to make an egg wash!. brush the egg wash over the top crust and sprinkle with sugar!.

honestly, a pie is really a healthy dessert - it just tastes decadent!Www@FoodAQ@Com
