Homemade custard for a trifle?!

Question: Homemade custard for a trifle!?
I much prefer the taste of my own homemade custard than any packet or powdered variety, but it doesn't set like the pre-made kinds when I'm making a trifle!.

I don't have the recipe to hand to say what I use and how I make it, but I wondered if anyone just generally has some tips of how to make homemade custard that sets!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Make it a bit thicker, and when cooling it, pour it into a basin, and stir it constantly in a basin of cold water to cool it quicker(thats how my granny used to do it)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Add extra Cornflour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

For a perfect trifle, you don't want the custard to "set" - it should almost hod together, but still be semi-runny! This is my favorite recipe:
