Making Pot Roast in slow cooker?!

Question: Making Pot Roast in slow cooker!?
What am I doing wrong!? With the vegetables I cook for 5 1/2 hours!. That's on high!. I guess I could cook it for 10 or 12 hours on low!. The meat comes out very chewy!. What I buy is eye chuck!. How can I make meat less chewy!? Am I buying the wrong cut!? I put the meat in last with 1 cup of water!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
You should be using either a chuck roast, arm roast or pot roast!. A chuck eye is more of a steak!. Put 1/2 the vegies on the bottom, then the roast, then rest of vegies over roast!. I also sprinkle dry onion soup mix over all and add about 1/2 to 1 cup water!. I let cook on low for about 10 hrs!. My roasts always turn out super yummy!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Place roast in slow cooker (night before you plan to eat it)!. add enough water to cover roast!. Set on "low" setting, simmer all night!. Next morning add veggies and turn up to high!.!.!.!. this should help the meat become tender !. Good Luck :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

LOWER HEAT AND LONGER COOKING TIMES :)Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I crock pot a roast I put in all the meat and veggies at the same time, because I use raw, fresh veggies and the meat is browned before I put it in!. Make sure you have plenty of water in the pot-enough to cover the top of the veggies and meat, start it about 7 am and it's ready to eat by 5:30pm!. You can always thicken the stock or save it for soup stock for later!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I usually use a Rump Roast in my slow cooker with the season packets, and potatoes, carrots and water!.

It's always falling apart when it's done!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

when useing a slow cooker iv always found its better if you put all ingredents in at the same time and cook it on a low heat !.slow cookers are ment to cook for a long time !.like if you set it cook in the morrning it will be ready when you get home at night !.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This is how i make my pot roast!.
Take a chuck roast and put it in the slow cooker!. Add water to cover!. I add a package of onion soup mix and one package of dry gravy mix!. Salt pepper and garlic powder I put on high and bring to a boil!. Should take a few hours!. Then i lower the heat to low!. I cook over night!. In the morning i add the veggies, potatoes cut into quarters etc and simmer rest of the day!. With the liquid the meat cooks in, I make a gravy either by adding flour or corn starch!. My kids love this and i never have left overs!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Blade or chuck roast is what I have found works best!. Has to be a "cheap" cut with a bit of fat !.
The meat should be cooking for the entire length of time that your veggies are!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

!?!?!?
Why are you cooking veggies first!.!.!.then adding meat!?!? Your veggies are probably mushy by the time your ready to srve it up!.

Put it "ALL" in the pot together and cook!.

Good luck!.

POT ROAST
Your choice of beef (to fit crock-pot)
1 pkg!. dry Ranch dressing mix
1 pkg!. dry Italian dressing mix
1 pkg!. dry Brown Gravy mix
1 cup water
Put beef in pot!.
Mix together all the dry mixes…!.then add water …pour over meat and cover & cook on high 4-6 hours!.
Until meat is tender!.
The first time I mad it I didn’t have the Italian Dressing mix…!.so I added a pkg!. of Onion Soup Mix…!.I have to say I liked that better!.
If you use more water you might want to add more Brown Gravy mix…!.to make a thicker sauce!. Was gonna add potatoes and carrots…but never got around to it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
