Mac&Cheese with a couple of hotdogs sliced up in it -- add them to the water as you boil the macaroni, then do everything else as usual!.

Mac&Cheese with a can of chili stirred into it just before serving!. It's still pasta, but does not taste like Mac&Cheese!. You could have the traditional mac&cheese Monday and this kind Thursday, then it wouldn't taste like you're "having the same thing again so soon!." Serve it with a green veggie!.

Baked potatoes with a can of chili over them!. A little sour cream (or plain yoghurt) or a little grated cheese on top will make it look less like bargain-budget food!.

Buy a whole chicken and roast or boil it!. Skin it and serve half of it one night (whichever half - light or dark -- you two prefer to eat plain) with potatoes and veggies, and cut up the other half to serve another night in a soup or stew or veggie casserole dish!. (The cut-up chicken, a box of frozen mixed veggies, a can of cream-of-something soup!. Put it all into a greased casserole dish and bake until bubbling hot!.)

Buying raw ingredients (rather than processed heat-n-eat stuff) is not only healthier for you but is also tons cheaper!. A whole chicken that will give two of you two meals easily costs about the same as -- or less than -- one meal's worth of ready-to-heat chicken!.

Don't forget to check any discount clearing houses or dollar stores that sell grocery items!. You never know what you'll find at a good price there!. Do be sure to always check expiration dates in those places, however!.

Email me (click on my avatar for an email link) for more ideas if you like!. I work with a non-profit for a cause I really believe in, so I've been doing this -- living on little -- by choice for a very long time and know some of the tricks by now!. My meals (including some really nice ones like steak or chicken breast served various ways) usually average about $1!.- to $1!.25 a serving!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

If you roast a whole chicken ($6-7), rubbed with salt, pepper and whatever spices you have around, you can have sliced chicken breast sandwiches (bread $2) with chips ($1-2!.50)and veggie sticks ($3 for carrots and celery) one night, chicken stirfry with frozen veggies ($1!.50) and those side dish noodle packs (about a buck) the second night, and chicken noodle soup (noodles $1-2, soup veggies from the carrots and celery and an onion) with refrigerated biscuits (75 cents for a can of 8) on the side another night!.
