I have made them the exact same way twice in a row, following the recipe from the back of the chocolate chip bag!. Twice now, they taste a slight bit off and they don't get all golden brown when they bake!. Can anyone help!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
Answers:
Baking soda is an agent that contributes to the browning process!. It also has the power of altering the taste of the good!. Check the date on your baking soda to make sure it is still good!. Even if it isn't expired according to the box, you may want to try the cookies again using a new, fresh box of baking soda!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You may need to get your oven calibrated!.
Or, it may be as simple as where your rack is situated in your oven!. Cookies should be baked in the center of the oven!.
Are you cooking with convection or conventional bake oven!?
Chocolate chip cookies aren't necessarily golden brown when done--you may need to take them out about two minutes before the recipe tells you to if you want them soft in the center!.
Remember, they continue cooking on the sheet pan after they are taken out of the oven so you will need to take them off onto a cooling rack immediately if you want them to be soft in the center!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sometimes you must adjust your liquids, oven temps, and cooking times!.
I would say they aren't getting cooked enough, although keep in mind baked items will continue to cook for a few minutes after removal from the heat!.
Ask Betty Crocker re; your altitude etc!. Or, of course SteveG!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Does your recipe include brown sugar!? Most chocolate chip recipes I've seen have nothing else in it that would turn it very brown!. Use a half and half mixture of brown and granulated sugars!. I would recommend light brown sugar, dark brown has a rather sharp taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
If they're gouey(!?), you're undercooking, or trying to make too thick a cookie!. It could be a problem with the margarine you're using!. Some veggie oils don't want their cookies to brown!. Off-taste!?!? How old are your condiments!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
there is probably something wrong with your ingredients!. My guess would be something about the type of butter you're using!. It could also have to do with the baking powder or soda!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
It sounds as if your oven's temperature is off - get an oven thermometer and check it out!.
