Question: I cannot used cooking sherry or wine to my baked chicken and artichoke , mushroom what can i use instead!?
my doctor advise me of my medicine that i take the cooking sherry and cooking wine would affect my meds so is there another solution that i can use with my baked chicken and artichokes and mushroom!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's very possible the doctor discouraged "cooking wine and sherry" because it is "cooking" wine - that is because these are supremely high in salt to discourage the drinking of the product by minors, allowing it to be sold in grocery stores instead of liquor stores!.

Broth will work well for any substitution!. But next time you see your health care professional, ask him/her to clarify if they mean ALL kinds of wine and sherry or if it was only the "cooking" kind filled with salt additives!. if it is only the cooking kind, you can pick up a bottle of wine or sherry and keep it to hand for the next time you make your baked chicken dish!.

Check your liquor store for non-alcoholic choices of wine and beer for cooking purposes!. Chicken broth can pretty much be a substitute for any liquids!. Your doctor may be concerned with sodium rather than alcohol, cooking wines are loaded with it!. I'd ask him to be more specific as to why he recommended not using these ingredients so you know!. If it's the alcohol, the previous answer is correct that the alcohol is pretty much cooked off!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

There is an old saying!.!. if you wouldn't drink it then don't cook with it!. In other words, cooking sherries and cooking wines are not the best to use!. Now, your doctor may not want you to add them to your foods as he knows of some ingredient in them that conflict with your meds!. But if it is the alcohol and you are not supposed to imbibe then let me tell you the alcohol cooks out in the process!. And not always is it that necessary to use it at all in cooking!. if its for the favour you can use Chinese rice wine, bring to the boil first, simmer for a while to remove the alcohol and then use as per your recipe instead of cooking sherry or cooking wine !.!.!.using it this way makes the flavour more intense so use slightly less than you would normally!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i don't particularly like spirits in food, as i feel it over powers the taste, but when you use spirits in cooking ,the alcohol burns off, but if you are still worried, in most supermarkets, you can buy non-alcoholic cooking sherrys and wines!. so bon appetit!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I think I'd go for worcestershire sauce (contains no salt), and a dessertspoonfull of jam, to bring depth of flavour!.
