Your yeast is dead--Did you try it in 160 degree water!?!? It should bubble!.
JW--I answered your question 1/2 hr ago--Try pre-heating oven to 200, turn off, and stick dough in there!. If it doesn't rise, you can always roll out and make bread sticks out of the dough!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Problem: Bread didn’t rise high enough
Possible Causes: Water was too hot for yeast; too little flour was used; too little kneading; dough was under-risen; pan was too large!.
Where's the best place to let yeast dough rise!?
Choose a draft-free area with the optimum temperature of 80 deg!. F!. to 85 deg!. F!. Don't raise dough in a hot area because excessive heat kills the yeast!. Too much cold, on the other hand, stunts the yeast's growth!. One good way to raise yeast dough is to place the bowl of dough in an unheated oven, then set a large pan of hot water under the bowl on the oven's lower rack!.
I have found that after that happened I put it in my bread machine on dough only cycle and kneaded it again and then let it rise again!.
hope this helps!. good luck and enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

there are several things that could make a dough not rise!. Temperature in the house (could kill yeast if cold enough), Temp of water used to activate yeast could've been too hot or cold, could kill yeast!. Best bet is patience, and check the expiration date of your yeast!. if it's past it's best by date, then it could take longer because you'll have less actual yeast than the pkg contains!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I always turn on my oven on low while I make the bread dough, turn it off and then place the bowl in there to rise!.
It really makes a difference to have a WARM,DRAFT FREE place to let your bread rise!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
