Measure Pasta Before or After It's Cooked?!

Question: Measure Pasta Before or After It's Cooked!?
I am going to make a pasta salad recipe and it calls for 3 cups penne pasta and I don't know if I am supposed to measure 3 cups before cooking it or 3 cups after it's cooked!? Three cups cooked wouldn't make very much but I'm new at this cooking stuf and I don't want to assume anything!. Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com

The general rule
Shapes may vary in size according to the manufacturer, so use these measurements as generalizations!. 8 oz!. uncooked small to medium pasta shapes = 4 cups cooked
(Examples: Elbow macaroni, medium shells, rotini, twists, spirals, wagon wheels, bow ties, mostaccioli, penne, ziti, radiatore, rigatoni)

hope this helps!. good luck and enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Usually uncooked!. Read the recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

usually it is uncooked, unless the recipie states that you will need cooked pasta!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

usually before, a bit tricky to judge after you have cooked it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

before!. Cooked pasta will usually yield three times more then what you started with!. (i!.e!. macaroni elbows!.)Www@FoodAQ@Com
