Okay, everyone is smarting off at you, like you are the only person in the world who thinks Mrs!. Butterworths is the original syrup!. You actually have it backwards, pure maple syrup is original, natural syrup but it is pricy so most people don't use it!. You can interchange it with the maple flavored syrup but the taste won't be the same, however, if you've never had pure maple syrup you won't know the difference!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I have no idea what original syrup is, but if the recipe calls for maple syrup, and you use something else, that will alter the flavor!. I got the following off the internet:
If you find yourself out of maple syrup, try this easy substitute made with granulated and brown sugars!.
INGREDIENTS:
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon butter
1 teaspoon maple extract or vanilla extract
PREPARATION:
Place granulated sugar in a heavy skillet!. Heat until the sugar melts and turns brown!.
Meanwhile, place brown sugar into a heavy saucepan!. Pour water over brown sugar and bring to a boil without stirring!.
Add caramelized white sugar to the melted brown sugar in the saucepan!.
Simmer, stirring often, until syrup is thickened!.
Remove from heat, and whisk in butter and maple or vanilla extract!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Okay I know that there is a difference between the 2 syrups!. Unlike the majority of the previous answerers!. There is a real maple syrup and then there is maple flavored pancake syrup!. The real maple has a better flavor, then the maple flavored pancake syrup, but plain old pancake syrup will work just fine!. There is also a tropical one or somethng like that, mmm I like it, it's very nutty tasting!.
So yeah use the reg syrup, it'll be okay but just not the same flavor!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
