Not traditional cottage pie, but why not!? Same as with music, where a variation of a theme can be better than the theme itself, sometimes deviating from tradition can bring excellent results!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Although I've never used anything except mashed potatoes, I do like to accompany shepherds pie with swede, they go so well together to make a tastier meal!.
If you want to use swede for the topping, you use swede, there's no fixed rule!. Enjoy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

why not but mix it with mashed pots as well,!.
i like to mash pots then when almost done add some cooked carrots and finish mashing, smooth pots with small pieces of carrots for texture and taste!. must top with cheese!. have you tried the Yorkshire way of putting a tin of baked beans in to meat mix!. tasty, cheap and filling!.

as long as you use beef for cottage pie and lamb for shepherds pie, your topping can be your choice!. try a mixed root veg mash thats delicious!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
