Making hummus without a food proccesor - any good?!
I'd really like to make some hummus at home, but my problem is that I haven't got a food processor (or blender, or any similar device) - just a mortar and pestle!.
So, my question is, can decent hummus be made without a food processor (just by mashing it)!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes it can, with a bowl and a fork, I would do half a can of garbanzo beans at a time to make sure you are mashing all the beans!. It will still have more texture than making it in a food processor, but texture is a good thing in my book!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Not good! Having some experience making hummus at a deli we always had to use the food processor to puree the chick peas!. A food processor would cost you about $30 - $50!. But it's worth it in the long run, for other things!
Using a motar and pestle would make it a very "mealy" and chunky hummus!. Rather than a smooth, creamy, spreadable hummus!? If that makes sense!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Pretty sure the Greeks haven't always had food processors on hand :-) Hehe! I'm sure that mashed hummus would be great; you'd actually probably be making a "different" hummus, maybe with a little more texture!. You've inspired me to try something new! :)Www@FoodAQ@Com
I always just mix it with a fork and it's fine!.
By the time you deal with the messy Food Machine, you could have made the batch with a fork or masher!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
