Dessert derives its name from a French word desservir, which means to clear the table!. It is a course that typically comes at the end of a dinner, usually consisting of sweets and other strongly flavoured dishes!. Today desserts have become a standard part of a meal and served in almost all the restaurants!. These are classified as frozen desserts, fruit desserts and some varieties of milkshakes also!.

History
The history of desserts can be traced back to many years!. A sweet dish was always prefffered at the end of a meal, but before the 19th century the mechanisation of sugar industry, made the sweets a privilege of the aristocrats!.Sweet dishes became a rare holiday treat for the middle class!. Sweet candies were invented around 350 years ago, and Ice creams origins can be traced back to 2nd century BC!. It is also said that Alexander the Great, preferred ice flavoured with honey and nectors, after his meals!. This was also served to his guests, after their meals!.This hints the popularity of desserts even in those days!. After several centuries, the dessert remained popular, but much of its form changed!.The ice cream was now topped with different fruits and other toppings!. Many more desserts were being invented!. However it still remained out of reach of the middle class, who considered desserts to be too much expensive and a luxury of the middle class!.In the year 1800 the ice cream industry and other bakery industries emerged!.This caused a fall in the prices of these desserts and within a few later years desserts were being enjoyed in every household!. Today a meal is said to be incomplete without a serving dessertsWww@FoodAQ@Com
