Get a loaf of Italian bread!. Slice lengthwise!.
Soften 1/4 lb!. of butter and add 1 tbsp!. minced garlic!. Mix well and spread on both sides of bread!. Place in broiler for a few minutes until it is starting to brown!. Be careful not to let it burn!.
You can sprinkle oregano on top of both pieces if you want also!. Do this before broiling!.

It's good with it, but I never would have thought of it as essential!. In fact, traditional Italian recipes don't call for it at all–

It's really just another modern fat-adding innovation!.
Italian cooking was handed down in my family from one of the originators of Baltimore's Little Italy and we never had parm on garlic bread-- ONLY butter and garlic!. The garlic is so flavorful, I'd hardly miss the cheese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yeah you can, it'll still be good, although using cheese is better!. Your idea sounds good too!. A good and better way of making the bread is first toast the bread with the butter very short time and then add the garlic and toast it some more!. Try using french bread because it'll come out better than any other bread!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
toast the bread, put butter on it, add the garlic salt, and put it under the broiler for a few minutes!. i never use cheese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Warm the gread up first, then put the ingredients you want in it, then heat it up again!. This will ensure the ingredients stay on it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Use only garlic/onion POWDER, Italian seasoning ( or a bit of sage or oregano!.) --Throw on some chopped chives for a different look!. I hate the taste of Parmesan cheese, too!!Www@FoodAQ@Com
You could but it's so much better with the cheese!. If you don't have Parmesan try another cheese you do have on hand!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
