Can I use Chili Pepper in place of cayenne pepper?!

Question: Can I use Chili Pepper in place of cayenne pepper!?
I know a lot of people have already asked if there's a difference between cayenne pepper and chili pepper but I want to know if I can substitute one for the other!? I don't have cayenne pepper and a barbeque sauce recipe calls for it, can I just use chili pepper instead or will it make the barbeque sauce taste weird or different!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
If you do it will probably taste like smoked chili!. Not all Chili powders are the same either!.

I manufacture BBQ sauce!. The Cayenne is added for the "heat" factor!. You should taste it without the Cayenne and decide what you want to do!. Adding extra Ground Black Pepper will bring it up also!.

You may not want "hot" sauce, so wait and taste it before experimenting!. It will be worth it to add it later if you so desire!.

It is not good to experiment with new recipes on the first run!. You don't know what you are trying to achieve the first time around!.

You absolutely can use chili powder instead of cayenne!. If it is a prepared chili powder mix, then there will be some other flavors in it!. However, this type of chili powder is often used in BBQ rubs and other southwest dishes, and it will taste good in a BBQ sauce!. You might like it better than cayenne!.

On the other hand, most commercial chili powder mixes aren't very hot, and the primary reason for the cayenne is for its hot spice quality!. If you want heat, I recommend substituting something else with heat in it for the cayenne!. Good substitutions are tabasco, hot sauce, red pepper flakes (like you put on pizza), or jalapenos (pickled or not)!. Use about 1/2 tsp of the sauces or pepper flakes or 1 tablespoon chopped peppers!. Add more to taste!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can use the chili pepper but it will give you a much different taste but also some heat!. It has other ingredients in it other than pepper!. Will give more of a southwestern flavor to the dish!. It will be noticeable!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Watch out for these domestic made hot sauces, they may contain a lot of vinegar!. This may or may not be a good thing for the dish you are preparing!.
If you want a spicy sauce without all the vinegar look to sauces made south of the border!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes!. Green peppers are great with a lot of foods!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, it will still be good!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
