How do you keep oil from burning you when cooking on a stove top?!

Question: How do you keep oil from burning you when cooking on a stove top!?
Every time I saute something on the stove top, I do it with a little bit of olive oil!. However, the oil will invariably start to crackle and pop, and little bits of it will hit my arms!. I tried turning down the heat, but that doesn't really work!. Is there a trick to get the oil not to sputter, or another product entirely that is better for sauteing on the stove top!? I apologize if this seems like a very basic question, but I'm a bit of a dunce at cooking!. :-)Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
Put half olive oil and half butter!. It will stop the spattering!.
also!.!.!.you can purchase a spatter shield (about $10) to put over your saute pan when cooking!. I have one and use it all the time to save my arms and stove top from spattering oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Turning the heat down helps!.also if adding a cold supstance to the pan,try putting it in before the oil is hot to prevent sizzle!. Of course you want the meat to sizzle!.Try using a George Foreman grill!.You won't need any oil and it browns/cooks on both sides at once!.These work nice!.They come in different sizes for different families!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

All questions are welcomed!. I know exactly what you mean!. I no longer fry chicken, I buy it because of the sputtering!.

Turning the heat down helps!.

Water can cause the sputter too!.

Next time try vegetable oil and see if that is better!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

try putting a little butter in with the oil, and keep the flame low, remember olive oil has a high burning point!. you may also want to try to saute in maybe canola oil (good for you), or even peanut oil!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try using "pomace" olive oil instead of "Virgin" or "Extra Virgin", they are more for salads and dressings than frying!. rachel gets paid big bucks to sell that evoo on here show!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Your heat is too high!. It won't sputter or spatter or burn if it is at a more moderate temperature!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
