Cheese
1!. Good to grate
Don't slice your cheese when you can grate it (the bigger the grater, the better)!. This ensures evenly melted, gooey cheese in every bite!.
2!. Get cheesy
Don't be shy -- plan on about two ounces of cheese per sandwich!. Use your palm to press the grated cheese onto the bread so it doesn't fall out!.
3!. Embrace the ooze
Don't fret if the cheese oozes out of the sandwich!. The toasty bits at the bottom of the pan are the best part!
Bread
4!. No need to Wonder
Don't just assume that white is the only way!. If you love focaccia or whole-wheat, go for it!.
5!. Size does matter
Don't slice your bread more than 1/4" thick or it'll overwhelm the cheese!.
6!. Smush your bread
Flatten sandwiches with a spatula or a heavy pan to ensure oozing cheese and crisp rather than doughy bread!.
Butter
7!. Butter le pain, not le pan
Spread room-temperature butter on the bread (on the side you're grilling, not the inside of the sandwich) before you grill!. That way, you'll get evenly buttered, evenly browned bread with a little crunch!.
8!. Salted butter is best
Just trust me!.
Cooking
9!. Stick with nonstick
Although a cast-iron skillet is the traditional fave, a nonstick skillet is your best bet for easy flipping and no sticking!.
10!. Put a lid on it
Cover the skillet while cooking the first side of the sandwich for maximum cheese melting!.

It may take a little longer, but, melt your butter first, then put it on the bread!. Lay one piece of buttered bread down on a, medium hot, pre-heated flat bottomed frying pan or griddle!. Add 2-3 slices of cheese, then put on the last piece of bread on it, buttered side out!. Turn it over when it is as dark as you like it, brown on the other side!. Sprinkle with salt, then cut it on the diagonal (the way the restaurants cut it)!. Place it on a glass plate, not paper, as the warm steam off the browned bread, will pick up the taste of the paper plate!. Good stuff!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
well, make sure the butter/margarine your using is soft, put just enough on not too much or your going to make it soggy, use 1-2 pieces of cheese, preferably some thinly sliced Velveeta, my favorite, or just kraft singles, and cook it on low, so that it cooks long enough to melt the cheese!. I love to throw in a slice or two of ham, or, on the outside of the sandwich, right after I spread on the butter, i'll spread on some dry minced onions, that's scrumptious if you like onions! good luck with the cooking!Www@FoodAQ@Com
butter two slices of bread
turn on the skillet
put first slice on butter side down
put slice of american cheese, or 2 depending on how cheesy you like it
put other bread slice ontop
let first side get golden brown, flip let that side get golden brown
usually the second side goes faster
then flip a few times more to make sure cheese has melted
some people like to add things
like ham or turkey
or some like to dip in ketchup
or dip in tomato soup
or put garlic salt on the buttered bread slices
but i like mine just plainWww@FoodAQ@Com
