I was in the grocery store in Steelville, MO last summer looking for barbque sauce, and this older lady (around 65-70) told me if you mix ketchup and a coke it makes the best barbque sauce!. Well, a couple months ago I finally tried a version of it!. I mixed ketchup, steak sauce, butter, brown sugar and a generic white soda together (as this is what I had on hand)!. It was really good, but would have been better with a little bit more brown sugar and about half a beer!. I usually mix store-bought barbque sauce with brown sugar and about 1/2 of a beer!. Everyone loved it!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

When I want BBQ sauce like you describe, I open my cupboards and take out everything red and black!. Then I mix it in a bowl and keep tasting till it's right!. Some of the things I use are - black treacle, sesame oil, tomato puree, garlic puree, sliced sushi ginger, various spices, red pepper jelly!. I can't give you the exact recipe cos it's different every time but always dark, sticky and delicious!.
