Cooking Classes: should they be required in Junior High School?!
Answers:
It seems that everyone places no value on cooking!. In the classes it teaches you how to use the utensils, measure, nutrition that is lacking!. Just read the cooking questions, not a clue!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
The combination of nutrition and cooking/food preparation should be present in all grades!. Every age group has some capacity to be exposed to kitchen skills/practice, food safety, kitchen safety, nutrition, and benefit greatly in reinforcing these things by participation!. There are different tasks that are appropriate or safe for varying age groups to be introduced to!. And it's never too early to get kids learning what healthy lifestyles are about!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
when i was in jr!. high cooking classes weren't mandatory, they were an elective!. what they did was taught you how to sew and basic cooking skills and how to make cookies!. but i think it'd be a good idea to start teaching the kids how to cook in jr high!. and it'd be a good idea if they had it in high schools to, because not to many high school students can cook!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I learned to make mini meat loaves, salisbury steak, real mac & cheese , and Sunday pot roast in junior high!. We even did a full Thanksgiving dinner and invited the teachers! also, we learned how to properly set a table with china and crystal!.
I still use those recipes today!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I wish they were!!! My mom was a single parent and had to work all the time so when she got home we always just had junk you microwave!. I didn't know how to do ANYTHING in the kitchen!. My hubby (back before we got married) had to teach me everything, how to boil water (seriously!), make a grilled cheese sandwich, brown hamburger meat, make spaghetti, etc!. I have figured out a lot on my own from recipes and trial and error!. A required cooking class would have been wonderful! And a money management class would have been great as well, but that's another story!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
In my day it was for the girls!.
I think it is needed, you just need to read the questions here to see there are women who don't know how to keep eggs or to cook a steak!.
I think it should be for both boys and girls!. Compulsory "beginners guide" then an optional choice in the following years!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Not so much in Junior High School but I believe once you get into High School it should be a mandatory class, especially for young women!. It helps them learn basic skills and nutrition and once they are out on their own they wont be eatting box dinnersWww@FoodAQ@Com
No but they should be required in the last year of high school so that students living in college dorms can make something besides Kraft dinner!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Personally I think it is better to have cooking classes just in high school because the kids are much more responsible and you need certain credits and stuff in high school!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
