How to spice up a cake mix?!


Question: How to spice up a cake mix!?
I'm planning on baking a couple of (birthday) cakes for a big party this weekend, but as a student I'm on a very tight budget!. Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve cheaply a standard homebrand cake mix!? I'm thinking of making a chocolate one and a vanilla!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

to the chocolate mix add 1/4 tsp!. chipotle or cayenne powder and 1/8 tsp!. cinnamon for a mexican spiced chocolate cake yummy! for white or yellow cake I love the jello cake!. mix up a small box of red jello and cool until it just barely starts to thicken!. punch holes into the top of the cake with a top of the handle of a wooden spoon then pour the jello over the top of the cake!. frost with whipped cream after chilling 2 to 3 hours in the fridge! Chocolate-Peanut Butter Cake

1 pkg!. (2-layer size) devil's food cake mix
1 pkg!. (8 oz!.) PHILADELPHIA Cream Cheese, softened
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 pkg!. (8 oz!.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided
6 squares BAKER'S Semi-Sweet Baking Chocolate
PREPARE cake batter and bake in 13x9-inch baking pan as directed on package; cool completely!.

BEAT cream cheese and powdered sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium-low speed until well blended!. Add peanut butter; mix well!. Blend in 1 cup of the whipped topping!. Spread over cake!.

PLACE chocolate in medium microwaveable bowl!. Microwave on HIGH 2 min!. or until completely melted, stirring with wire whisk after each minute!. Add remaining 2 cups whipped topping; stir until well blended!. Spread evenly over frosted cake!. Refrigerate until set!. Store in refrigerator!.

Almond Joy Cake

1 package devil's food cake mix
24 large marshmallows
14 ounces coconut
1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
1 cup almonds -- chopped

Make chocolate cake according to package directions in 2 round pans!. Make favorite chocolate frosting for cake!.

While cake is cooling, heat evaporated milk, sugar and marshmallows in a very large pan to avoid spilling over!. When marshmallows are melted, add coconut and almonds!.

Spread this on top of the bottom cake layer!. Top with other cake layer and frost with chocolate frosting!.

1/3 cup sliced almonds, toasted

Directions:
PREPARE cake mix according to package directions for 13 x 9-inch baking pan; cool completely in pan on wire rack!.

PLACE sweetened condensed milk in a large, microwave-safe bowl!. Microwave on MEDIUM power, stirring halfway through, for 4 minutes!. Reduce to MEDIUM-LOW power; microwave, stirring with wire whisk every few minutes, for 16 to 24 minutes or until thick and light caramel colored!. Stir in caramel topping!. Cool for 15 minutes!. 1/4 cup oil
4 egg whites or 3 eggs
1 cup coarsely crushed creme-filled chocolate sandwich cookies
FROSTING
1 (16-oz!.) can Pillsbury? Creamy Supreme? Vanilla Frosting


Preparation Directions:
1!. Heat oven to 350°F!. Lightly spray bottom of 13x9-inch pan!. Prepare cake as directed on package using water, oil, and eggs!. With spoon, stir in cookies!. Pour batter into prepared pan!.

2!. Bake at 350°F!. for 32 to 36 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean!. Cool 1 hour or until completely cooled!.

3!. Frost cake with frosting!. If desired, garnish with additional cookies!.

1 package DUNCAN HINES? Moist Deluxe? Yellow Cake Mix
1 package (4-serving size) vanilla-flavor instant pudding and pie filling mix
4 eggs
1 cup water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 package (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate chips
1-1/2 cups finely chopped pecans
Confectioners' sugar for garnish





1!. Preheat oven to 350°F!. Grease and flour 10-inch Bundt pan!.

Fudge Ribbon Cherry Cake
1 (18!.25 ounce) box chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup maraschino cherries, chopped
1 to 1 1/3 cups maraschino cherry juice, or as needed
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 tablespoons butter or margarine, softened
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Confectioners' sugar, as needed

Heat oven to 350 degrees F!.

Prepare cake mix with cherry juice instead of the water it calls for in the directions!. Use rest of ingredients stated on the box!. Fold in chopped cherries!. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch fluted tube pan!.

In small mixer bowl beat cream cheese, margarine and cornstarch until fluffy!. Gradually beat in sweetened condensed milk, egg and vanilla extract; beat until smooth!. Pour evenly over cake batter!. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until a wooden pick inserted near the center comes out clean!. Cool 15 minutes; remove from pan, cool!. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar!.

Makes 12 servings!.


Chocolate Mountain Cake

1 (2 layer) devil's foodchoc!. cake mix
2 large chocolate instant jello's
1 (12 oz!.) pkg!. semi-sweet choc!. chips
4 large eggs
1 cup veg!. oil
1 1/2 c!. water

Preheat oven to 350!. Mix all ingredients together until well mixed!.
Place mixed ingredients in greased bundt pan!. Bake for 50 to 55
minutes or until a toothpick or fork comes clean after being inserted
in middle comes out almost clean!. Allow 30 minutes to cool!. Turn
pan over on plate!.

1 package white cake mix
I small package cherry Jell-O
1 can cherry pie filling
1 (8 ounce) container Cool Whip?

Make cake according to package directions!. Let cool approximately 20 minutes!.

Poke holes all through cake with meat fork!.

Make Jell-O according to package directions!. Slowly pour Jell-O over cake!. Refrigerate until thoroughly chilled!.

Spread cherry pie filling over top of cake!. Spread Cool Whip over top of pie filling!. Refrigerate!.

CHOCOLATE CARAMEL FUDGE CAKE

1/3 c!. evaporated milk
1 pkg!. German chocolate cake mix
3/4 c!. melted butter
1 c!. chopped nuts (optional)
1 sm!. pkg!. chocolate chips
60 Kraft caramels
1/2 c!. evaporated milk

Mix 1/3 cup milk with cake mix; add butter and nuts!. Spread half of batter in 13x9-inch greased pan!. Bake 8 minutes in 350 degree oven!. 1 can of crushed pineapple in its own juice
1 box of 1 step angel food cake mix (1 step kind)

Oven Temp ~ 350° Baking Time ~ 30 - 40 Min!.
Pan Type ~ 13x9-inch pan

Preheat oven, grease a pan!.
Pour pineapple and juice in!. Sprinkle blueberries over pineapple!. Pour 3/4 cup sugar over berries, sprinkle cake mix dry over berries!.

Melt margarine and pour over cake!. Pour remaining sugar over this and sprinkle nuts over this!.

Bake!. Cut through with a spoon in several places to let juices come through and cook 10 or 15 more minutes!. Can be served with Cool Whip or ice cream

Oven Temp ~ 350° Baking Time ~ 50 - 60 Min!.
Pan Type ~ 10 inch Bundt pan

PREHEAT oven, grease your pan!.
Microwave 1 1/3 cups morsels in medium, microwave-safe bowl on MEDIUM-HIGH (70 percent) power for 1 minute; stir!. Microwave at additional 10- to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth!. Cool to room temperature!.
Combine cake mix, eggs, sour cream, milk, rum, butter and melted morsels in large mixer bowl!. Beat on low speed just until moistened!. Beat on high speed for 2 minutes!. Stir in 1 cup nuts!. Pour into prepared Bundt pan!.

Bake until wooden pick inserted in cake comes out clean!. Cool in pan on wire rack for 20 minutes!. Invert onto wire rack to cool completely; transfer to serving platter!. Pour Glaze over cake; sprinkle with chopped nuts!.

Microwave remaining morsels and 1 to 2 tablespoons milk in small, microwave-safe bowl on MEDIUM-HIGH (70 percent) power for 30 seconds; stir!. Microwave at additional 10- to 20-second intervals, stirring until smooth!. Cool for 5 to 10 minutes!.
