"Austrian Rosettes" - - - - - - - - It is a family recipe which requires "specialty forms" but I use this recipe for "funnel cakes"!.
1 egg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/2 all purpose flour
1/2 cup milk

The actual recipe for the Rosettes is a pain in the butt simply because of those elusive forms, but I’ll put it here anyway!. However, if you prefer the idea of using it for funnel cakes, just gradually pour the batter into the melted Crisco, zigzagging it to make it look better, and cook better too!.
when its golden brown, turn it over if it need to be- sometimes the entire thing will cook without needing to be flipped, and then place on paper towels to absorb the Crisco!. !. !.but BE VERY CAREFUL!!! Getting burned by the hot Crisco hurts like an s-o-b!.

Beat egg slightly with sugar and salt, using a folk!. Gradually and alternately add milk and flour and beat until smooth!. Pour ingredients into a GLASS bowl!. Put Crisco oil (the one in the "tub) into a small saucepan over medium heat, and heat until Crisco has melted and bubbles disappear!. Put the Rosette iron into the batter!. DO NOT SUBMERGE THE IRON IN THE BATTER OR ELSE THE ROSETTE WILL NOT COME OFF OF THE IRON EASILY (OR "CLEANLY")!. Place the iron with the batter on it into the Crisco!. Don't submerge the iron until the form has partially "broken away" from it; then submerge iron!. When the bubbles stop, take the out of the Crisco and remove the rosette!. (The rosette may fall off the iron and you'll have to use a hand strainer to fish it out!.) If the Rosette doesn't come off easily then pry it off with a fork!. Place on the toweling and let "dry"!. Sprinkle with Confectioners (powdered) sugar and serve!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
