you mean you don't want to add a sauce!? I used to coat my beef cubes in flour and then brown then in a skillet with oil until nice and brown and then put in a crock pot with all the veggies and water!. The browned coated meat and water made the sauce by itself!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

SLOW COOKER BEEF STEW

The slightly spicy and sweet flavor of hoisin sauce adds a rich flavor to this stew!. Using a slow cooker makes it easy to make ahead!.

1 tablespoon LAND O LAKES? Butter
3/4 pound beef stew meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 1/2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh garlic
1 small (1 1/4 cups) sweet potato, cut into 3/4-inch pieces
1 medium parsnip, peeled, sliced
1/2 pound baby Yukon Gold potatoes, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 (14 1/2-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 (14-ounce) can beef broth
1/3 cup hoisin sauce
1 teaspoon dried thyme leaves


Melt butter in 10-inch skillet until sizzling; add beef and garlic!. Cook over medium-high heat until beef is browned (4 to 5 minutes); drain off fat!.

Place browned beef and all remaining ingredients in slow cooker!. Stir to mix well!. Cover; cook on Low heat setting for 8 to 9 hours or until beef is tender!.

Recipe Tip
Store leftover stew in resealable freezer containers or bags; freeze up to 3 months!. To thaw, place in refrigerator for 24 hours!. Reheat in microwave or over medium-low heat in 2-quart saucepan!.

Parsnips are a root vegetable with a mild sweet flavor!. They are commonly boiled and mashed like potatoes but in this entrée they add a sweet complement to the other vegetables in the stew!. Nutritionally they contain a small amount of iron and vitamin C!.

Beef Stew

2 pounds stew meat, cut into cubes
1/4 cup flour
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1 clove garlic
1 bay leaf
1 teaspoon paprika
4 carrots, sliced
3 potatoes, diced
2 onions, chopped
1 stalk celery, sliced
2 teaspoons Kitchen Bouquet?

Place meat in crockpot!. Mix flour, salt and pepper, and pour over meat; stir to coat meat with flour!. Add remaining ingredients and stir to mix well!. Cover and cook on low for 10 to 12 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 6 hours!. Stir stew thoroughly before serving!.


Beef Stew
1 1/2 pounds stew beef, cut into 1-inch cubes
2 tablespoons vegetable oil or bacon grease
4 medium carrots, sliced
4 medium white potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
1 medium onion, peeled and quartered
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
2 bay leaves
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
2 cups beef broth
1 cup water
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1/3 cup water

In a skillet, brown meat in hot oil or bacon grease!. Layer carrots, potatoes, onion and browned meat in crockpot!. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper and spices!. Pour broth and the 1 cup water over all!. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours!.

Half an hour before serving, remove bay leaves and add mixture of cornstarch and the 1/3 cup water to thicken!. Turn to HIGH and cook for 30 minutes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I use my own Onion Soup Mix, equivalent to Liptons and Beef Stock!. Mix flour, salt, pepper some seasoning salt and roll your stew beef in it and cook then add to the crock pot with vegetables of your choosing!.!.!.!.carrots, potatoes, onion, peas, corn etc!. The flour thickens the beef stock so no other sauces are needed and no purpose in using tomato soup!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I coat the meat with flour and sear it!. Then add beef broth and cook about 1 hour!. Then add your veges and cook another hour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
