all of these are good ideas, however hitting the jar against the counter or hitting it with something might cause it to break!.
my manager taught me to take a butter knife and slide the tip under the lid!. gently lift it up until the button in the middle of the lid pops open!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Holding the jar tightly in one hand, whack the bottom of the jar smartly a couple times with the palm of the other hand!. This usually relieves the vacuum that is sealing the jar tight!. Now you can turn the lid off, it still may need a rubber hand grip, or towel,!.!.to grip it firmly,!.!.but it should open with a turn!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Turn the jar over and whap the bottom (now facing up) of it a couple of times HARD!. Then try to twist the top off right side up!. If this doesn't helo, get an old fashoned can opener (the ones that make the triangle shaped punch hole) and break the seal by placing the sharp point under the lid and pulling it away from the jar; once the seal pops, the lid should twist right off!Www@FoodAQ@Com
There is a "tool" available in most kitchen stores!. It's similar in looks to a beer can opener except it doesn't puncture the lid!. What it does is release the vacumn so you can easily unscrew lid!.
Hot water and gentle tapping on counter will sometimes do the trick, but this tool is a lifesaver! I have 2 of them!Www@FoodAQ@Com

my mom use to bang a fork around the top(or simply bang th top)!.!. not sure if it works but i guess it did for here!.!.!.lol!.!. anyway some one once told me to shake the jar then with your palm hits it a few time then pop thetop off!. not sure if these are just old wifes tales but i use to watch my mom and grandma do it all the time!.!.!. i think i even to it out of habitWww@FoodAQ@Com
Use a beer can opener to puncture a hole in the lid so the air-vacuum seal will be broken!. With some lids, I've used a small screwdriver and whacked it with my claw hammer to make the hole!. How soon will the lasagne be ready!? I haven't had dinner, yet !.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I always run it under hot water first, then smack the edge of the lid against the counter a few times!. I also have one of those rubber gripper thingies for jar lids, and this has worked for me every time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
My mother always taught me to whack the edge of the lid against the counter a few times to open a pickle jar!. It works for most jars and works like a charm!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Turn the jar upside down!. While holding the jar upside down in one hand pop it against your opposide palm a few times!. Then right side up, give it a quick tight tug to undo!. Works for me mosts of the time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
I usully run it under hot water or it the top with a butter knife around the edges a couple of time!. that usually does the trick!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
