Question: Where can I buy tahini in San Francisco, CA!?
i have everything i need for my recipe for falafel-stuffed pitas except tahini!. i looked all over at Lucky's today but i couldnt find it nor did anybody i asked, know what tahini was!. i really only need two tablespoons!. how can i make it myself!? can i substitute with mayo or something!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Tahini is made from ground sesame seeds!. If you have to substitute use another MILD nut butter!. Sesame seeds are oily so it is rather thin compared to peanut butter!. More along the lines of almond or sunflower seed butter!. I don't think the sesame seeds are roasted so that will also change the taste!. So I think you should look for a raw nut butter
Check some of the ethnic grocers in your area!. If you have a Trader Joe's near by I know they carry tahini!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Ask any Lebanese person, any middle eastern eatery will be able to help you, you may be able to get it at your local supermarket, we can in Australia, its everywhere! There really isn't any substitute for it at all, when you see the consistancy of it you'll understand!. If you look up sbs!.com!.au go to 'food safari' and pick the Lebanese episode you will be drooling in no time!. there are several indian stores in Tracy, one on 11th street one near tracy blvd if i remember right!. there are several in the livermore /pleasanton area as well as dublin and san ramon!.
I dont know as in the SF city limits but try any eastern indian store!. Ive seen it in the trader joes in livermore on stanley blvd!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
