Have you ever eaten turtle?!
I had turtle a few nights ago in a restarant that was absolutly the most delious taste I've ever had!. I was prepared in a mushroom sauce, and it was so tender, and good!.
They say it can be very good if prepared right or very bad, what was you experience!?
I never see it at the market, and have heard that it is very rare to pull one up, but I wouold love a recipe to see how it is made!?

YES! Personally, I like fried snapping turtle!. We used to eat it when I was young!.
It can taste good or bad, depending on how the turtle meat is prepared!. Grandma always use to soak turtle, rabbit, deer, and squirrel meats overnight in milk!. She said it took out the "gamey" flavor!. Hers was always delicious!.
Here are a few of her recipes!.!.!.!.!.
Fried Turtle
1 prepared turtle
Salt and pepper, to taste
6 ounce can evaporated milk
Flour to coat
Dip turtle pieces in milk and sprinkle with salt and pepper!. Coat with flour!. Add enough vegetable oil to 3/4 cover turtle pieces!. Add turtle and cook over medium heat until well browned!. Turn and reduce to low heat; cover and cook for 2 hours or until tender!.
Potato Turtle Stew
2 lbs!. turtle meat
1/2 cup flour
4 tbsp butter
1 can tomato soup
2 quarts water
1 lg!. onion, chopped
1 clove garlic
1 cup potatoes, diced
Cut turtle meat into bite-size pieces and boil in 2 quarts boiling water for 20 minutes!. Remove and save stock!.
In a dutch oven, melt butter then add garlic and On low heat, cook slowly until lightly browned!. Add onion!. Lightly flour meat, put in butter mixture, gently turning until browned!.
When browned, pour 1/2 of the stock over meat mixture and simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender!. Add diced potatoes, tomato soup and rest of stock!. Cook 20 minutes or until potatoes are done!.
Serve hot!.

3? qts water
2 medium onions, finely chopped
1 branch celery, finely chopped
? bay leaf
2 sprigs parsley
6 cloves
1 tsp sugar
1 cup canned tomatoes
1 tbsp salt
? tsp whole black peppers
3 tbsp butter
Clean the meat then cut from bones!. Put bones and gristle in a pot of water!. Add all ingredients except butter!. Bring to boil then reduce heat!. Simmer covered for one hour!.
Drain and reserve broth from vegetables and bone!. Keep broth, throw away vegetables and bones!.
Dice turtle meat and brown it in the butter until golden brown on all sides!. Add browned meat with drippings to broth!. Heat to boiling, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes or until turtle meat is done!. Do not overcook or the meat will be tough! Salt and pepper to taste!.

Yes, I have had turtle and it is good!. I had some friends who thought turtle was their favorite!. They always said different parts would taste like chicken, beef, etc!. I think that the lady would put flour on it and brown it in a skillet and then either bake it or put it in a pressure cooker!. But they always said it would be tough if you didn't cook it for a long time!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes I have several times!.!.!.!.I'm down in south Louisiana, we catch and eat them!. I like it ok but i don't think it's really special, probably one of my least favorite wild animals for some reason!. I had it once when I worked on a farm!. It was the single toughest piece of meat I have ever had!. They probably should have slow-roasted it, but they boiled it!. They ate the turtle because the turtle had been eating the fish!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Yes, it's absolutely delicious depending on how it is prepared!. My gran used to make an awesome turtle soup but I've NEVER had decent turtle in a restaurant!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
yes ive had turtle right off the side of the road no not road kill but its very good just fryed in oil but it takes practice to do it right to learn from your mistakesWww@FoodAQ@Com
