No!. Sour cream is cream that has been acidulated, ie allowed to go sour, or the quick method that we Latvians use when we have run out is to add a few drops of lemon juice and mix well!. This is perfectly acceptable!.

1 unwaxed lemon!.
whip the cream unitl you get soft peaks, add the lemon juice
and whip unti thick and creamy!.

Sour cream is just as it is named - cream that is sour!. Usually used as a dressing or dip - my favourite way is to pour it over a baked potato with some chopped chives!.
