Chocolate Brownies from the Hamlyn All Colour Cookbook! My mother still has it!. (The book I mean!) I was about 6 when we started making things!. We thought that something had gone wrong, because they were so chewy and moist in the middle, but now I realise we had it totally right!.

Those and fairy cakes were among the first things we made!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

White sauce - for the cheese sauce part of macaroni cheese!. Took me hours stirring away at a pan and in the end I STILL had half an inch of it sticking to the base of the pan! No more of course - I make it a pint at a time in the microwave - for a 650W model it's 1 min for 2oz butter, add 2oz flour and do for another minute, then stir in a pint of milk, m/w for 2 mins, stir and whisk, repeat twice and the result is a pint of perfect white sauce done in less than ten minutes - no stirring, no lumps! Add cheese or parsley or whatever, as required!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I do not remember the very first thing that I learn to cook/bake!. But one of the first things that I learned to cook/bake as a child was Brownies!.

I remember when I was about six years old!. I used to put tomato sauce in a pan with some soy sauce and noodles, let it cook until the noodles were done and top with cheese!. It sounds terrible now, but that was the first thing I remember cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Boardwalk Fries-- my first job in Ocean City MD 1980!. Nothing like getting splattered with that hot peanut oil all day!. Many other restaurant jobs from there, and the fact that I was never allowed to cook at home growing up sparked a lifelong interest in cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Do truffles (like rum balls) count!.!.!.!? Can remember making them when I was very small, presumably because they were no-cook!. Double chocolate muffins would have to have been next after that!. First proper meal would have been spaghetti bolognese, I imagine - old faithful!Www@FoodAQ@Com
