Answers:
A "taquito" is a tortilla, usually corn, ROLLED tightly into a thin cylinder, around a filling, usually meat but can be cheese, and fried until crisp!. They are typically served with guacamole, sour cream, salsa and possibly a lettuce salad!. Another term for them is "flautas!." The term "taquito" literally means "little taco!."

The thing is, I thought the word "taquito" was a Jack-In-The-Box term (but I could be wrong)!. I'd always heard the correct term was "flauta," meaning "flute!." Where I live in the SW now (El Paso), people are split 50-50 on taquito vs flauta!. One source I found online said that "taquitos" are corn tortillas and flautas are flour (wheat) tortillas!. But my observations tell me that people are all over the map on this word!. You would need to ask at least 5 Latinos to get the full story, I figure!. If you wanted to, I bet you could write a research paper on the taquito vs flauta controversy!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
