parboil it for about 45 minutes first, then when your grill is hot, put it on watch it closely, and when near done smother it with bbq sauce , take off and enjoy!. hope that helps!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

First, do not put any sauce on the chicken until about 5 minutes before it is to come off the grill!.

For the most tender whole chicken ever, beer can chicken!.

Honestly, you clean out the cavity of the chicken, stick an open can of beer in it, so that the chicken will 'perch' on top of it without falling down, wrap foil over the whole thing and stick in in the coals or on the lower part of the gas grill (remove the top shelf of a gas grill)!.

Be sure to keep the chicken standing up on the can or the beer will spill out all over the grill!.

I keep my old charcoal grill just for this purpose!. I make a pile of charcoals that put out scads of heat, plop that chicken right down into the middle of them when they are ready, and let the chicken cook until the charcoals are almost burnt out!. I have left chickens in those coals four or five hours without burning it!.

And it does fall off the bone, immediately after taking the foil off, so that the bottom part of the carcass is still onthe beer can!.

Honestly, you'll never want to roast a chicken any other way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

precook in the microwave first, just a few minutes, like 7 or 8 minutes, this starts the chicken from the inside out, whereas the BBQ cooks from the outside in!.
If you are using charcoal, start the charcoal about half hour or 3/4 hour before putting the chicken on!.!.!.make sure that all of the coals are evenly glowing and that the coals are spread out so that the chicken can be placed evenly over the heat!. Let the chicken cook for 10 min then turn over for another 10 minutes, check to see how well it is cooked, if it needs more time cook for say!.!.!.5 minutes more and check!. keep watching it!.
If you cook by propane, the heat is usually even so not to worry there!.!.!.the cooking times should be about the same!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Grill it until about 3/4 done, then put in disposable aluminum pan with a little water and seal with aluminum foil!. Set aside on grill away from direct heat for about 15 minutes!. (this varies by amount of chicken and the grill, so practice!.) Close grill also!.

This will finish your chicken and send the flavor to the bone!. Grilled chicken will look raw inside to some folks!. If the juices are clear, the chicken is done!.

It can be kept warm like this for a long time also!.

My husband puts it on the little rack that's above the main grill, so it isn't on the direct flame!. He covers it and watches it like a hawk:) !.!.!. Use a dry rub on it, and just put sauce on at the very end, because the sauce can catch fire!.!.!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Put them in foil packets so that all the juices don't run out and make it dry!. You could put some crushed pineapple in there too, it gives it a nice sweet flavor!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
