I have been bought a cast iron griddle pan. What can I cook on this - recipes? Can it be used on gas hob??!
Answers:
You lucky, lucky thing!.!.!.
How I long for a cast iron griddle pan!?
Now you can use it on a gas hob, and in it you can do anything that requires frying!. But not stir fry vegetables!.
Do tender steaks in that pan!.
Do fish fillets in that pan!.
Do pork chops or pork bangers in that pan!.
Eggs do not do too well in it, I would suggest you do not even try it!.
Best of all about that pan is;
THAT you can put the gas on full to heat it, and as soon as you put the meat or fish in, you can turn off the gas or turn it down to its lowest level!. Cover it with the lid and walk away!.
The food will cook because the cast iron retains heat longest!.
Ho do enjoy that pan and think of Clara at the end of the rainbow, waiting for someone to buy her one of those!.!.!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

yes, it can be used on the gas hob, in fact, this is the best way to use it as the instant heat will warm it up fast!. Cook anything on it really, especially meat that you would normally bbq, and grilled veg is great too - think onion quarters, courgette slices and sliced peppers!. You can sear a thick fillet of beef or lamb on the hob, then pop the pan into the oven to finish it off!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Basically you can cook anything you like on it, especially if you like the fancy 'ribbing' marks it will give - but remember, 1: It needs "seasoning" first - heating to a fairly high temperature with just oil in it to give it a bit of a coating, and even more importantly, 2: The handle can get almost as hot as the pan - so you MUST ALWAYS have an oven mitt/glove to hand, and 3: You'll probably need a crane to lift it on and off the stove - mine weighs a ton ! ! !Www@FoodAQ@Com
Gas is fine for cast iron cookware!. I have a number of them!. As the other answer said, they need to be first conditioned or seasoned!. I have a gas fish cooker on my deck and I season my new ware and sometimes old neglected ones by turning the pan upside down on the cooker and turning the flame to max!. I let it get as hot as it will and then cool down!. Then I scrape the scale away and fill the pan with cooking oil!. Then I heat the oil and let it cool!. After that just enjoy using it!. I do clean mine with mild dish liquid and water but you want to pan to stay black with carbon from previous cooking!. Good luck!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
You can use it on gas
Cook anything you would otherwise frill or fry
Never - ever- wash it with washing up liquid - to clean it and keep it in good condition, use kitchen towels to remove waste bits etc, after you have wiped it clean, wipe with a small amount of olive oil/butter/vegetable oil, this will keep it in pristine conditionWww@FoodAQ@Com
