Can you answer a ley person's (me) question about BBQing?!

Question: Can you answer a ley person's (me) question about BBQing!?
I have this grill, non-gas, and charcoal!.

Do I need some fluid for these things to burn, or is this charcoal supposed to burn by itself!? (Do I just drop a match in it and will it light up!?)

I'm asking this because I know they sell that gas fluid, but if I don't need it I don't want to use it because I have an uncle who burnt half his body trying to BBQ!. He grew a beard to hide some of the burns!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You can buy charcoal that's ready to flame--- just light a match and foom! Trying to light up regular charcoal with fluid just takes a little more time!. Good luck! Go practice your bbqing skills!Www@FoodAQ@Com

I had a friend who taught me his system of creating an inverted cone made of newspaper filled with twigs on the inside and larger pieces of wood on the outside!. All of this was planted in the charcoal and when lit would eventually get the charcoal alight!.

Nowadays I just use those little white blocks - I think they're solid paraffin!. I just scatter them around, light each, and wait about half an hour until the charcoal is ready!.

The main thing is to enjoy the BBQ!Www@FoodAQ@Com

WELL then use electric BBQ if you afraid of using naked charcoal!

To light charcoal, all it needs is a naked flame or smouldering contact!. Whatever your source is for the initial heat is entirely up to you!. You can use lighter fluid like an idiot, or use firelighters, which are much safer!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

you can put crumpled old news paper under charcoal and lit it , or you can arrange some small pieces of dry wood on the said news paper and arrange charcoal on top, with one good match stick you can light it up!. Good luckWww@FoodAQ@Com

Get the charcoals that does not need lighter fluid!.

Barbequing should be fun but if you are going to be paranoid that you are going to burn the house down and all the fun is taking out of it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
