This is difficult to do, and expensive!. If you can can it (in a canning jar), that's one way!. But biryani is dry, and it isn't recommended to can dry foods without a pressure cooker, because dry foods can't reach the proper temperature for sterilization!.
The other idea is to freeze it!. You have to pack it in a box with dry ice!. You can get the dry ice cheap enough at Wal-Mart, but there might be extra shipping charges for shipping dry ice, and dry ice is heavy, so shipping will probably be expensive ($30-$40)!. This way, you could mail it overnight or 2-day air!.
Another idea I think would work if you get all the details right!. Pack the biryani hot into a suitable container that you have cleaned well, inside and out!. Let the food cool!. Freeze it!. Remove it and pack it in a box and ship it overnight!. But only if you know for certain your bf will receive it the next day!. I don't think it will hurt the biryani to thaw during the day of transit!. Be sure your bf heats it well before eating!. It will still not be very inexpensive to ship, but cheaper than the dry-ice option!.
My last idea requires some specialized equipment!. Pack the cooked biryani into a seal-a-meal bag!. Then seal the bag into a 2nd seal-a-meal bag!. Immerse the double-bagged biryani in simmering water for at least 30 minutes!. Remove from water, cool, and freeze!. Ship this one or two-day air!. It will be thawed when your bf gets it, but I think it will be safe to eat, even after 2 days!. Again, it should be heated well before eating!.
None of my techniques are recommended for home cooks, so do this at your own risk!. On the other hand, I used to cook food outdoors when camping in the evening, eat half of it, and reheat the rest the next day and eat it!. I never got sick!. IMO people are sometimes too paranoid about food safety!. If all the ingredients in your biryani are cooked through and hot, and you put it in a sealed clean container of some sort, then freeze it and ship it, I think you can get 24-48 hours of shipping time and the food would still be safe to eat!. Just be sure the food is hot, the utensils and storage containers are clean, and you cool the food and freeze it before shipping!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
