Answers:
Good question:

The other ingredients in the root beer (or ANY carbonated soda) will react with the aluminum or calcium phosphate (baking powder) and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) in the cake mix to make a very light, fluffy cake!.!.!.!.!.

BTW, when making "boxed cakes", you can do away with the water and use ANY juice, and you can also avoid the fat (and NO ONE will know the difference) if you ditch the oil called for on the boxed cake mix recipe for the SAME amount of Applesauce!.!.!.!.!.!.You can make some GREAT combinations if you experiment!.!.!.!.!.!.!.

Apple Cake:

1 box spice cake mix
(add the egg, liquid called for [juice, coffee, whatever will compliment the flavor of the finished product!.!.!.!.!.] and sub out applesauce for the oil, same amount!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.ex: if the cake mix calls for 1/3 cup of oil, sub out 1/3 cup applesauce for the oil)

Peeled, sliced apples, cut into 16th's (peel and core apple, cut in half, then half again, then halve those halves)

Pour batter into a well buttered (or greased, or PAM'ed 9X13 baking dish) Place in PREHEATED oven, as directed on box!.!.!.!.after 10 minutes, remove and place apple slices, in rows on top of the batter!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Continue baking for time recommended on box, plus about 5 minutes!.!.!.!.Remove and let cool slightly, serve in bowls with ice cream, frozen yogurt or sorbet!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Enjoy!!!

If you do not use eggs, your cake will fall apart!.

If you're using a yellow cake mix, use eggs, oil, and sub the root beer for the water!. I'd also use root beer (or sarsaparilla) extract or concentrate in the frosting!. This can be HTF, but Zatarain's makes it!.!.!. yellow label, brown bottle, spice aisle!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Unless the ingredients in the root beer will make the cake rise, you'll most likely need to follow the directions for the cake mix too since the ingredients required in the cake mix is what makes the cake a cake!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

well, eggs give it flavor and do something! its important, trust me!.!.it wouldnt fluff up or taste the same!.!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
