Putting a wet towel in the oven?!

Question: Putting a wet towel in the oven!?
To make a flat cake it says to wrap a wet tea towel around the cake pan!. Wont it burn/go on fire while in the oven!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
works really well I do it for my cakes to bake even, have never had a fire, and no crunchy edges!. if you don't like the thought of the towel you can buy some bake even strips!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It could, esp if you have a gas oven!. A wet towel takes the place of a water bath!. But I think i'd risk it w/o the wet towel, unless it is a souffle-type, very delicate and tender cake using lots and lots of beaten egg whites!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Never heard of that procedure for making a cake!.
Just think that if you do it!.!.!. keep a very good eye on the towel for the 20- 30 minutes of baking!.!.!.
You could put the cake pan in a casserole dish of water like when you make a custard!.!.!.!.
Good Luck

it won't, just will get really hot!. Basically you're steaming the outside of the cake!.

Might come out chewy on the outside, like a bagel!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I never did that but I put a pan of water on the bottom rack when I make a fruit cake, it keeps it very moistWww@FoodAQ@Com
