Answers:
they probally were a little too thick on the sheet and be sure to have the oven screaming hot before you put the cookies in!. It may not hurt to go 10 to 20 degrees higher on oven temp mnext time!. Just be sure to watch your cookies to be certain they donr burn!. Recipes work different for people in different areas!. A warmer climate or higher altitude can make a big difference believe it or not!.
If your recipe tastes good, try it again with what I sggest and see if it dosnt make a world of difference but remember-for the cookies to be crisp, they need to go into a HOT ovenWww@FoodAQ@Com

4 tbsp!. molasses

Sift together:

1 tsp!. cloves
1 tsp!. ginger
2 tsp!. baking soda
2 c!. flour

Mix shortening, sugar egg and molasses!. Sift together cinnamon, cloves, ginger, baking soda, flour!. Mix into egg-sugar ingredients!. Form into balls the size of walnuts!. Dip one side into sugar!. Bake 350 degrees, approximately 18 minutes!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

That happens when they've been left out to long or they have gone off!.
