I would probably definately use the cream of mushroom soup and just dilute it with half a can of water!. I never really thought of actually substituting milk for anything else but the cream of mushroom soup sounds yummy! I might just try that tonight Thanks!Www@FoodAQ@Com
Well, first, just as a reminder, the milk in the helper is used, as far as I know, to help make the sauce creamy!. So keep in mind that using something non-dairy based will not turn out with the same results!. With that said!.!.!.
I really don't suggest you use the baby formula!. Nor would I suggest you use ice-cream, as someone else suggested!. These things, while they do have a dairy texture, have such strong flavors on their own, that they will significantly alter the taste of the food, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be for the better!. If the things you listed are the only things you have, I would use the soup, about 1/4 can and 1/4 can of water (or more, depending on how much milk the helper called for), as even though it will add a different flavor, the flavor is more likely to compliment the hamburger helper, rather than give it a strange flavor, as the baby milk or ice cream would!.
On the other hand, water and perhaps a little extra butter if you have it would work just fine, it just wouldn't be as creamy!. If you have some sour cream or plain yogurt, add some in with the water and butter, and stir until dissolved and somewhat creamy, then continue with your recipe!. Or for flavor (but still would be lacking the creamier texture), try some chicken or beef broth!. If you use something like water or broth, you may want to use a little less, so that it will still thicken up and not be too runny!.
Just remember to ask yourself this about anything you add to it- would I want the flavor of this mixed in with the flavor of the hamburger helper!? If not, then it's probably not a good idea to add it in!.
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com
