put the yeast in warm water and let it activate until it bubblesWww@FoodAQ@Com

Yeast shouldn't be refrigerated which could have caused it to not rise!. For a bread machine you really should use bread machine yeast!. Yeast typically needs to be activated in warm water with a bit of sugar mixed in so with a bread machine my guess is you are right that it likely didn't rise because the yeast was cold!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I store my yeast in the fridge all the time!. I just put the measured amount on a saucer and it's warm enough when I go to use it!. I doubt that cold yeast is the problem!.

You probably just had old yeast!. Or, could you have done what I did!? One afternoon, I really did forget to add the yeast to the bread machine and of course I got a hard blob of cooked dough!. I just made bread crumbs with it!. The yeast was still sitting on the counter when the bread was done!.!.!.or rather "done for!."Www@FoodAQ@Com

Being stored in the fridge shouldn't be a problem, I actually store mine in the freezer and it still works just fine!. I do mix it with a cup of warm water for about a minute before I start using it though!. I'd assume you just got a bad batch of yeast!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

It could be the reason but most likely not!. Your yeast could be bad even if it was kept in the fridge!. Buy some fresh yeast and try again!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes I would think so!. Maybe leave it out on the counter and let it warm before you throw it in next time!?
Good Luck
