Cooking canned salmon?!

Question: Cooking canned salmon!?
It is my understanding that canned salmon is not cooked before it is put in the can!. Therefore, just like with any raw salmon, one must cook it thoroughly before they eat it to be on the safe side!. I know that it contains salt (and perhaps some kind of preservative) prior to being put in the can, but why does it come out sooo dry after you cook it compared to the raw, packaged salmon you buy in the store!?

When it comes out so dry, doesn't that mean that the omegas have been cooked away!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

while it is true that canned salmon is put into the can raw,the process of canning it imvolves heat!. Canned salmon is no different than canned tuna and you never cook that before making tuna salad!. Over cooking makes it dry!. Fish is very delicate and can go from great to shoe leather in a few minutes!. not all nutrients dissappear when cooked!. Some nutrients even need cooking to release them!.!.!.!.!.!.!.I just went ot the web site you mentioned and read the answers!. They say that it is cooked, in the can, under pressure and with high heat!. You just maybe didn't get that far in the article when you read it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I can't explain why it is dry for you, are you overcooking!. You could try adding juices such as lemon or butter and don't cook nearly as long!. One thing we do with our canned salmon is chop onions and mix with an egg and crushed Ritz crackers!. Form into patties and fry in a pan with a little oil!. They are very good, you can also add dill and drizzle with lemon juice after cooking!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
