OK I am a grill cheese master!. The most likely cause is too thin of a pan to cook it in!.

The trick is low and slow on the heat!. I use a full cube of butter (1/4 stick) for each sandwich!. Melt the butter in a HEAVY pan on med low heat, not a cheap $3 pan!. Cast Iron is very good for this!. Take one slice of bread and dip it into the butter!. That is the top slice!. Put the bottom slice in the pan and check that it is nicely buttered!. Add in your cheese and top piece of bread and cover with a pot lid!.

After about four or five minutes, it should be ready to turn!. MED LOW heat!.!.!. Then about three more minutes on the other side and it should be good to go!. I like a nice toasted marshmallow color!.

I use high quality Pepperidge Farms White bread or any bread that is Canadian White!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

My specialty! You've got to get the skillet the right temperature!. And keep an eye on it!. Try turning down the heat a little!. I also butter the bread (I like butter best, though most greasy spoons use vegetable oil), that way the butter doesn't burn before you get the bread on the heat!. It's a fine balance, the perfect grilled cheese!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

You are not keeping a check on the sandwich as it cooks!. Preheat the pan and don't use the highest temperature setting!. Check it every 20 seconds as it nears toastiness before flipping it over!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

i am trying not to laugh at you!.!.!.!. i have been cooking for over 30 years, and put butter on it then cook it and flip it over to see if it is burnt!. Let it cook a minute or two and flip again!. Best of luck to you!!!!!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

only put the temperature on liek meduim to medium high!.!.just be patient and check the bottoms and then once the bottoms are golden brown take it off and if teh middle isnt cooked enough just microwave it for a few secs!.!.ntohing about it will change but the inside will be melted and the outside wont be burntWww@FoodAQ@Com

on your stove turn the flame down on low!. I am an expert on grilled cheese!. Unless the stove is diffrent!. Anywayput a light spread on butter on and cook it for say!.!.!. 2, or 2 and a half minutes!. Thats how long it takes me!. oh and use bumble and brown magerine!. It work very well!Www@FoodAQ@Com

don't walk away from it stand there and watch it or at least stay in the room with it if your cooking it on high flip it every 4 min or so i cook really really good grilled cheese and im only 12 years old so ya do what i saidWww@FoodAQ@Com

If your using just butter this is your problem!. Butter burns fast!. If you want that butter taste, mix the butter with a little veg!. oil it will allow you to cook it longer!. Your heat should between medium and low!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

the higher the fat content the faster it's going to heat up and burn!.!.!.!.try it without butter!.!.!.!.!.also!.!.!.!.i find the if you don't cover the crust it burns so get large cheese slices that cover the edgeWww@FoodAQ@Com

Put the cheese on the inside of the bread not the outside!. It works better that way!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

okay this is serious lol umm!.!.!. maybe you don't flip it enough or you flip it to much like every minute flip it or less than thatWww@FoodAQ@Com

if you cant make grilled cheese then maybe you shouldnt be using appliances!. just eat a cheese sandwich raw!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try a different skillet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

DOOD, you have to watch that sh*t, put the j down and pay attentionWww@FoodAQ@Com

Cook longer at a lower temp!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Turn the heat down and use less butter!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

just do it on the stove top, and check every so often to see if it is the color you want!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Could be the wrong pan, not enough butter, or the heat is to high!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

maybe because you leave on the grill to long
or you make the grill way to hotWww@FoodAQ@Com

and sometimes white bread browns/burns easierWww@FoodAQ@Com

To hot a pan not enough butter!?Www@FoodAQ@Com
