2 T Olive Oil
11/2 C Diced Onions
1/4 tsp Kosher Salt
11/2 C Sour Cream
3/4 C Mayo
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/4 tsp White Pepper
1/4 tsp Cayenne
1/2 tsp Kosher Salt
In saute pan, heat oil
Caramalize onions with 1/4 tsp salt approx 20 min
Remove from heat and cool
Mix rest of ingridents together and then add cooled onions

Ok - let me start by telling you this takes time but it 110% worth the effort!. Try this for a different, homemade onion dip to serve with anything from veggies to chips or even on your hamburgers!
Scratch Onion Dip

In medium skillet, heat butter over medium-high heat until melted; add onion powder!. Cook and stir 3 to 5 minutes or until tender and lightly browned!. Remove from heat, stir in Worcestershire sauce!. Cool completely!.
In bowl, combine onion mixture, sour cream, mayonnaise, salt and pepper; mix until blended!.
Cover and refrigerate at least 1 hour to allow flavors to blend!.

1 cup sour cream
1 envelope Italian salad dressing & recipe mix
5 green onions
1/3 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Place cream cheese, sour cream and dressing mix in food processor, set aside!.
Finely chop enough of the onions to measure 1 tsp; reserve for garnish!. Coarsely chop remaining onions!. Add to food processor, process until well blended!.
Transfer to medium serving bowl; stir in cheese!. sprinkle with reseved onion!. Cover!.

If you are unable to find Maui Onions, Texas Sweet Onions would be the closest!.

1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1 cup water
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 tsp celery seed

In a saucepan, mix the sugar, vinegar and water!. Bring to a boil then remove from the stove and allow to cool!. You are creating a marinade!.
Place finely chopped onions in a bowl and pour the sugar/vinegar/water marinade over the onions!. Stir!. Refrigerate this mixture overnight!.
Remove from the refrigerator and drain the liquid from the onions!. Discard the liquid!. Mix the onions, mayonnaise and celery seed to create your dip!. Refrigerate until needed!.
You may choose to use your food processor to blend the dip to a creamier consistency before refrigerating or keep it as is for a chunky dip!.

The old sour cream and lipton onion soup mix is a cliche but a tried and true favorite!. I do make other dips from scratch but typically they are more of a herb variety or with different types of dairy; for good ol' onion dip I stick with the classic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
