If you use wine in a recipe, is it safe for a 3 yr old to eat!?
I thought that all the alcohol evaporated, or something like that!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

I am a former chef and while all of the respondants so far are partially correct, not all of the alcohol burns completely off, like one said only use 1/2 cup and let it reduced down to all most nothing the ensure the levels are gone, there would not be enough in it to affect a child, some cakes and pastrys have base alcohol for flavours like in Black Forest Cake, and they will not harm him/her or send a AA person back to the bottle, wine is lower in % than say brandy or other hard products, all you really get is the flavour!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Yes it's fine!. Just be sure to cook the wine thoroughly so the alcohol evaporates!.

Just as an FYI many extracts contain alcohol as well!. For example, vanilla extract is made with vodka!. Just something to keep in mind when cooking for children - always cook things thoroughly!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
