Sausage links have weird plastic around them?!

Question: Sausage links have weird plastic around them!?
I was cooking some Jimmy Dean sausage links, but when they were started turning brown, I noticed like a rubbery/latex plastic wrapped around each individual one!. Is this normal, safe to eat!? What is it exactly!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

Answers:
It's perfectly safe to eat!. That's the casing used to make sausage!. Without it, the ground meat inside would fall apart!. It would look like little chunks of the bulk sausage you see in the butcher's display case!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

sounds just like the skin on them so yeah it's safe to eat, it's just there to hold it all together!.

you can generally buy skinless sausages if you don't like it!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

This will be the synthetic sausage casing and yes, it is safe to eat!.

Some sausages are made with natural casing (intestine) and some are made with synthetic!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

They are called sausage casing!. It is basically Pig intestine lining that is clean and sanitized ( very safe )!. This has been done for many years!. I am a chef and I even make my own sausage!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

thats what a sausage IS!.!.how do you think they're made!.!.!.have you ever eaten sausage before!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
