Is sour cream the same as creme fraiche?!


Question: Is sour cream the same as creme fraiche!?
I have a recipe for bacon and mushroom pasta with sour cream in the sauce but I can't seem to find any!. Is there anything else I could substitute!?Www@FoodAQ@Com

It's not the same but you can make creme fraiche using sour cream!. Add 1 tablespoon of sour cream to a pint of cream and let it sit covered with a cloth at room temp overnight!.

BTW, you have to beat it a little with a whisk or fork!. Just to mix it up!.


When you add the sour cream and leave it *at room temp* overnight the cultures in the SC affect the cream!. Creme fraiche is NOT a very sour cream!. Trust me!.

Yes, it is the same!. On the carton of creme fraiche it says soured cream, just that one is French and the other is English!.
I use creme fraiche whenever it says sour cream in a recipe!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

sour cream is a crème that has been fermented, hence the sour flavour!. its consistency would be well enough for your recipe, it′s only the taste that would differ!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

only in france you would find the real creme fresh,so what they sell there as fresh creme is very good substitute for sour creamWww@FoodAQ@Com
