How can I eat my cucumber?!
I'm planning an Indian meal later!. I'm gonna make Chicken Madras, rice and have a side of naan bread and a mix of onion, lime pickles and cucumber, maybe some salad!.
How do I slice the cucumber - and what about the WAX coating!? I've always eaten cucumbers with the skin on but I've just read I may have to remove it!?! It's just a regular supermarket cucumber!!!
Thanks!!!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sorry, but yes you'll have to peel the cuke!. Regular supermarket cucumbers are waxed to help preserve them during the shipping process, and if you're serving guests its better to peel!. Just use your veggie peeler and it'll come right off, no problems!.
And the easiest way to slice is just into rounds after you've peeled it!. Makes a pretty presentation too!
In the future, if you don't want to peel the cuke, buy an "english" or "seedless" cucumber!. They're usually wrapped in plastic and go by both names, it'll depend on your grocer!. They tend to be skinnier and longer than a regular cucumber, but the seeds are really tiny and don't have that bitter taste that regular cukes can have!.
Good luck!Www@FoodAQ@Com

There should be nothing on a cucumber that is inedible!. If you are not keen on a tiny portion of wax, take whatever you use for scrubbing baked potatoes (either a pan scourer -- the plastic, flat, cloth type -- or a bristled brush) and give the cucumber a brisk brush down and rinse well!. You can even try simply wiping well with a hot cloth!. That will not harm the cucumber!. Then simply slice into your salad, Pimms or whatever!
However, for a side dish with curry, I like to peel the cucumber then chop up the flesh into fairly smallish chunks!. Sprinkle with salt and leave for several minutes!. Then rinse and dry!. Mix into a creamy yogurt and season!. The peeling and salting helps to prevent cucumber "repeating"!. Keep in a cool place until you serve!. And do not forget the dish with coconut!.!.!.! Preferably with bananas! I never serve curry without that either! YMMV!
Bon appetite!Www@FoodAQ@Com

Sounds yummy! I like to quarter the cucumber lengthwise, then slice the spears--depends on how big you want the pieces to be!.
I usually peel regular cucumbers or if you have one of those veggie washes, try to scrub off the wax that way!. The wax won't hurt you, but I think it does make the texture a little "tougher"!. And if you slice really thin, the peel won't be so noticeable either!.
Even better is to buy the English cucumbers if your supermarket carries them--they're longer and skinnier than regular ones and come in shrink-wrapped plastic instead of wax!. Fewer seeds and thinner skin too!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Try it this way for a change!.
Peal the green off, and grate it length wise across a grater!. So that you have long strips of cucumber!. Chop up very finely a hot pepper and let it sit for several hours, refrigerated!.
You may need to pour some water of it but it should be very wet!.Www@FoodAQ@Com

Always peel a cucumber!. I cut mine lengthwise twice and then slice it so it looks like little quarters of a slice!. You may want to make some kind of cucumber salad with vinegar and sugar and hot pepper!. You can probably find a recipe on line!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
Peel off the green skin and quarter it into long strips!. Halve the cucumber and halve the halves!. (sounds crazy yeah) If you want the seeds gone just skim your knife along the top and scrape them off!. Then just cut the strips to however size you like!.Www@FoodAQ@Com
slide a fork down the side for a scraping effect it is really prettyWww@FoodAQ@Com
